Nick draws on more than 15 years of experience working on significant legal issues and corporate compliance across a variety of industries, including tech and financial services. He is known for providing highly effective advocacy and trusted advice to companies and individuals who are facing some of their most important moments. He is also a seasoned and skilled investigator who goes beyond finding facts to fully address internal issues and prevent future risk. Trusted by senior executives and employees alike, Nick approaches every engagement with respect, empathy, and a determination to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients.
In-House Experience
Before founding his own firm, Nick was a senior leader on the Alphabet Regulatory Response, Investigations & Strategy (ARRIS) team, which addresses high-stakes issues at Google and across Alphabet Inc. that involve regulatory scrutiny or enforcement actions. During more than four years at Google, Nick worked on matters at the forefront of novel issues affecting tech companies, such as content moderation, data security, and privacy. He served key roles in helping executives prepare for congressional testimony and helping the company navigate government investigations. And as a leader of the company’s high-risk investigations and data incidents team, Nick set the company’s standards for conducting best-in-class internal investigations, including investigations into compliance with ethical standards and other conduct by employees and extended workforce members.
Law Firm Experience
Nick joined Google after serving as a partner at McGuireWoods LLP in its Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation Department, where he defended individual and corporate clients in white collar criminal and regulatory matters. He represented financial institutions, corporations, political figures, and individuals under investigation by government entities, including the Department of Justice, the Federal Election Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Department of Treasury. During his time at the firm, he developed expertise in political law, white-collar fraud, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He also conducted comprehensive and complex internal investigations, and represented clients in class actions, securities litigation, and in all phases of complex commercial litigation. He also served as lead counsel and argued a criminal appeal before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He was twice awarded the McGuireWoods Excellence Award for his work at the firm.
Additional Experience
Nick previously served as a law clerk to the Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals where he analyzed novel legal issues in all areas of the law and drafted appellate opinions. He began his legal career as a civil rights and employment discrimination attorney at a small firm in Washington, DC.
